#86 <BEAR>M Garage + i-factory wins the fierce battle!

2021 "Mote tai (Mote endurance)" August 21 (Sat) Race Report

The 7-hour final race has returned to "Mote tai"! Last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the schedule was a qualifying round and a 3-hour final on Sunday, but this year, with pre-race health checks and infection control measures in place, we are holding the original style 7-hour final!! A full grid of 77 cars aimed for the finish line 7 hours ahead at the scheduled time of 9:30, marking the start of the 24th "Mote tai".

Familiar in endurance races, the Le Mans-style start where the Rider rushes to the machine begins with the first group (the top 39 qualifiers) all aiming for the first corner. Suzuki Motohiro from #32 TEAM SANMEI, starting from the 6th grid, makes a great start and takes the holeshot for the second consecutive year. After dominating the opening lap, he leads the race. #40 NMC×ATJ Racing marks him closely. Furthermore, #41 TSC & DF Nories also catches up, and in the early stages, these three machines engage in a fierce battle for the top position. Behind them, #86 <BEAR>M Garage + i-factory leads, followed by #16 G-racing, #42 RS-ITOH's Chain Shop, and #10 Team Dendenmaru, while pole position starter #62 TEAM MASSA-R and second qualifier #88 Vesla with Seido Joshi yss are around 10th place.

As a highlight of the early stages, Tetsu Ukawa, riding #67 Riding Sports Fire A, started from the 75th grid position and climbed up to 6th place after completing 24 laps. He improved his position with each lap, showcasing the skills of a former MotoGP™ rider.

The team leading the race, #32 TEAM SANMEI, pitted on the 30th lap. #16 G-racing took the lead. After that, the lead changed during the pit stops, but on the 37th lap, #57 Santoku RT Fan Factory Risshu @zip riding the BMW G310R took the lead for the first time. However, from behind, #88 Vesla with Seido Joshi yss closed in and took the lead on the 42nd lap. #88 Vesla with Seido Joshi yss continued to lead the race and pitted on the 60th lap. At this point, #62 TEAM MASSA-R took the lead for the first time. For a while, #62 TEAM MASSA-R maintained the lead, but the positions changed again during the pit stops.

At the 3 hour and 30 minute mark, #62 TEAM MASSA-R is in the lead with 86 laps. Following them is #57 Santoku RT Fan Factory Risshu @zip with a gap of 38 seconds and 555, #310 BMW Motorrad G310R & PEO with a gap of 52 seconds and 678, and #88 Vesla with Braking Girls yss trailing by 1 minute and 22 seconds and 222, with the top 4 on the same lap. Among them, 2 bikes are BMW G310, which is an unprecedented development.

However, the team of Sasuke Shinozaki, who is also the points leader of the MFJ CUP JP250, #88 Besra with Seido Joshi yss, takes the lead again and begins to solidify their position. However, there was an overtaking in the yellow flag section, resulting in a painful 180-second penalty stop, dropping them to fifth place. When #62 TEAM MASSA-R took the lead, they made their final pit stop on the 138th lap. At this point, #86 BEAR M Garage + i-factory rose to the top for the first time. Just as we were approaching the last hour, they also made their final refueling on the 141st lap. #62 TEAM MASSA-R made seven pit stops as planned, but #86 BEAR M Garage + i-factory was at risk of running out of fuel with two laps remaining, taking a gamble to win. Meanwhile, #88 Besra with Seido Joshi yss made their final refueling on the 146th lap and went out on the course in place of Sasuke Shinozaki. Shinozaki lapped faster than anyone else, marking the fastest lap of 2 minutes 13 seconds 724 on the 155th lap, closing the gap. Even so, the difference from the leader was over 20 seconds, and it seemed that #86 BEAR M Garage + i-factory would escape with the lead.

However, with 20 minutes remaining, a crash occurred at the exit of the S-curve. Since the machine remained on the track, a safety car was deployed. Tsuhiro Nakazawa, driving the #86 <BEAR>M Garage + i-factory, desperately crouched down on the fairing to reduce air resistance and conserve fuel while following the safety car. At this time, Nakazawa calmly checked the position of Shinozaki. With 6 minutes left, the safety car entered the pits, and the race resumed. The gap between the two cars was about 8 seconds. Nakazawa set the best sector time, but Shinozaki managed to surpass it, reducing the gap by only a few tenths of a second. They entered the final lap with a gap of about 7 seconds. Nakazawa confirmed his victory, while Shinozaki continued to chase without giving up. The gap quickly narrowed, but the #86 <BEAR>M Garage + i-factory managed to hold on and crossed the finish line first, receiving the checkered flag.

"We decided to participate as a team after entering August, and we were able to add our entry at the last minute. Over the course of 22 days, the Rider, pit crew, and the analyzer who calculates fuel efficiency each did what they needed to do to achieve this victory. We didn't have much time, so we couldn't synchronize perfectly, but we ran with a spirit of cooperation. I'm glad I could give a good report to Takayuki Miyamoto, who has passed away and helped us out." - Nobuharu Misu

[#88 Besra with Braking Girls yss] closed the gap to 2 seconds and 846 milliseconds but unfortunately finished in 2nd place. In 3rd place, [#62 TEAM MASSA-R] came in with a 25 seconds and 155 milliseconds gap from the leader, with the top 3 completing 167 laps. Finishing in 4th place overall, the top G310R/VTR class, [#57 Santoku RT Fan Factory Risshu @zip] secured a prize with 166 laps.

The 11th place #17 Insurance Craftsman won the R25/WS, the 12th place #61 Nakamura Engine Laboratory won the NST-CBR, and the 29th place #932 APPRISE Akuzawa Automobile Yumomi won the NST-Ninja, each achieving class victory.

The 24th "Mote tai (Mote endurance)" held during the COVID-19 pandemic reached its finale without any major falls, thanks to the cooperation of all participants. While praying for the earliest possible end to the new coronavirus, let's meet again next year at "Mote tai!"
