August 24 (Sat) Race Report

#103 NMC × ATJ Racing takes pole position for the second consecutive year with an impressive time!

2019 "Mote tai (Mote endurance)" August 24 (Sat) Race Report The dramatic development of the Saturday final race was won by #51 Koshun Gundan Nihara Equipment & #51 Massan, advancing to the 7-hour endurance race!

This year, the 22nd edition of the 2019 Motegi Open 7-Hour Endurance Road Race "Mote tai" will be held on August 24 (Sat) and 25 (Sun). On the 24th (Sat), official qualifying took place from 8 AM, and the grid was determined by the combined times of the first and second riders. Due to the rain that fell until the morning, the race started in half-wet conditions, but the track dried quickly, and an astonishing time was marked in the first session by the first rider in Group A. Kazuki Tomita from #103 NMC × ATJ Racing set a time of 2 minutes 11.479 seconds, breaking the previous course record by about 3 seconds.

"Since I was able to achieve a time in the low 13-second range during Friday's practice, I thought I could get into the 12-second range with new tires. When I set my best time, I was able to use the slipstream of another car on the final straight, but other than that, I was running alone. Last year, I was overtaken at the end, so I want to mark the fastest lap in the final as well," said driver Kazuki Tomita.

Second rider Nobumichi Tomita recorded a time of 2 minutes 16.301 seconds. The combined time was 4 minutes 27.780 seconds, securing pole position with a large margin over second place.
"We have reduced weight by about 8 kg compared to last year and have refined fuel efficiency. All the riders are consistently fast, so we definitely want to aim for victory," said Manager Murasawa confidently.

In second place, #33 Shin Construction & YM project clocked in at 4 minutes 30.523 seconds, followed by BRAVE class leader #9 'Top' No. 2 Moto Champ & SE in third place at 4 minutes 30.591 seconds, #8 'Top' No. 1 Moto Champ & SE in fourth place at 4 minutes 31.216 seconds, #57 Vesla Racing with Seido Girls in fifth place at 4 minutes 31.834 seconds, #34 Motekita Friendly Running Club + Hasegawa Rebar in sixth place at 4 minutes 31.879 seconds, #32 team SANMEI in seventh place at 4 minutes 32.589 seconds, #13 Team KYOEI A Team in eighth place at 4 minutes 32.976 seconds, #31 Presto, G3 & N-PLAN in ninth place at 4 minutes 33.813 seconds, and #88 MSTV WITH ME CBR250RR in tenth place at 4 minutes 34.471 seconds, completing the top 10.

This year's Saturday final race was contested as a 3-hour consolation race. The #51 Koshu Gundan Nihara Equipment & #51 Massan initially took the lead in the race, but around the 30-minute mark, it started to rain. The downpour quickly soaked the track, creating wet conditions. Teams that pitted and those that continued to race had differing strategies. The rain soon stopped, and the track began to dry out.

Just after an hour and a half into the race, the leader PUTO fell. Although they restarted, they fell significantly behind.

With 1 hour remaining, the leader was #76 Team Garinko II. Following closely behind by 0.312 seconds was #51 Koshu Gundan Nihara Equipment & #51 Massan, who then immediately pitted. #81 Kitokito RT Bokkosuna moved up to second place. When #76 Team Garinko II pitted with 40 minutes left, #81 Kitokito RT Bokkosuna took the lead. By the time #76 Team Garinko II returned to the course, they were more than 1 minute and 38 seconds behind #81 Kitokito RT Bokkosuna. Behind them, #51 Koshu Gundan Nihara Equipment & #51 Massan was closing in, just 6.449 seconds back. Then, with 25 minutes remaining, #51 Koshu Gundan Nihara Equipment & #51 Massan overtook #76 Team Garinko II to move into second place. Dropping to third, #76 Team Garinko II closely marked #51 Koshu Gundan Nihara Equipment & #51 Massan. The two battled at a pace in the 2 minutes 25 seconds range. Meanwhile, the leader #81 Kitokito RT Bokkosuna, relying on good fuel efficiency, had limited pit stops to two, but when it rained, they switched to rain tires and continued running on them. As a result, they could not increase their pace and, with just 3 minutes remaining, were overtaken by both #51 Koshu Gundan Nihara Equipment & #51 Massan and #76 Team Garinko II, dropping to third place. The final showdown for the lead was between #51 Koshu Gundan Nihara Equipment & #51 Massan and #76 Team Garinko II. Although #76 Team Garinko II briefly took the lead, #51 Koshu Gundan Nihara Equipment & #51 Massan surged ahead to the finish line. They brilliantly won the 3-hour battle and secured their advancement to Sunday’s 7-hour endurance race.
"I believe the reason for our victory was that our first Rider, Taguchi, did his best in the rain. Taguchi also finished 2nd in last year's consolation race but secured advancement to the 7-hour endurance race. With this, all three Yamanashi teams will be able to compete in the 7-hour endurance race. We will fully enjoy the 7-hour race," said team representative and Rider Tetsuya Nihara.

#76 Team Garinko II finished in 2nd place with a time difference of 0.354 seconds, while #81 Kitokito RT Bokkosuna, who fought hard, took 3rd place and made it to the podium.
