2018 "Mote tai (Mote endurance)" August 26 (Sun) Race Report

The 2018 "Mote tai" final race will be held on August 26 (Sun). A total of 77 teams lined up on the grid, including one team that qualified through the official qualifying, seeded, organizer recommendation, and Saturday's final race held the day before, and started at 9 AM aiming for the finish line 7 hours later.

Pole Position's #103 NMC×ATJ -Racing made a great start and took the holeshot, quickly establishing a solo lead. In second place was #11 BLUE EYES & DREAM Kashiwa, in third was #7 MSTV WITH ME CBR250RR, in fourth was #1 YSS Racing×MGR Racing Service, in fifth was #12 CLUB1.2FK Kushitani Kawaguchi Store, in sixth was #25 BF&RASH Fujita, in seventh was #32 TEAM SANMEI, and in eighth was #51 Nobu Construction with Vesrah. In the second lap, #12 CLUB1.2FK Kushitani Kawaguchi Store moved up to second place, followed by #7 MSTV WITH ME CBR250RR, #11 BLUE EYES & DREAM Kashiwa, and #25 BF&RASH Fujita, but #25 BF&RASH Fujita crashed at the first corner. They quickly restarted but fell behind.

In the early stages of the race, #103 NMC×ATJ -Racing was leading the pack, while a fierce battle for 2nd place was unfolding. During this, an incident occurred where #7 MSTV WITH ME CBR250RR and #35 GO&FUN TeamKYOEI C team collided and fell at the hairpin, causing both to drop significantly in position.

Behind them, there were teams that maintained pace and focused on fuel-efficient driving. These included #30 ATJ-Racing, #1 YSS Racing × MGR Racing Service, and #12 CLUB1.2FK Kushitani Kawaguchi Store. Among them, #1 YSS Racing × MGR Racing Service stood out, especially after a crash at the V corner about 2 hours and 25 minutes into the race, which left a vehicle on the track and led to a 4-lap safety car period. During this time, #1 YSS Racing × MGR Racing Service and #12 CLUB1.2FK Kushitani Kawaguchi Store made two pit stops for refueling. Notably, #1 YSS Racing × MGR Racing Service timed it perfectly, taking the lead at the 3-hour and 30-minute mark, which was the halfway point of the race. They were being pursued on the same lap by #103 NMC × ATJ-Racing and #12 CLUB1.2FK Kushitani Kawaguchi Store. However, #12 CLUB1.2FK Kushitani Kawaguchi Store fell back due to a 60-second penalty for exceeding continuous driving time. It seemed that #1 YSS Racing × MGR Racing Service was establishing a solid position, but they also received a 60-second penalty for overtaking during a yellow flag period. Then, on lap 147, with less than an hour remaining, #30 ATJ-Racing rose to the top for the first time in the race. At this point, #30 ATJ-Racing had only entered the pit 5 times; would they pit again or could they run to the finish? All eyes were on them, but everything went according to plan. They completed 170 laps first and achieved victory for the first time in 5 years since 2013. "Everything went according to plan. We didn't refuel during the safety car, and the 5 pit stops were as scheduled," said driver Yoichi Okito.

In 2nd place, with a time difference of 47 seconds and 418, [#1 YSS Racing × MGR Racing Service] won. They also received the award for the most laps completed in the WT class.

In the back, #12 CLUB1.2FK KUSHITANI Kawaguchi Store and #103 NMC×ATJ -Racing were battling for 3rd place. With 9 minutes remaining, #103 NMC×ATJ -Racing passed #12 CLUB1.2FK KUSHITANI Kawaguchi Store to rise to 3rd, but #12 CLUB1.2FK KUSHITANI Kawaguchi Store managed to retake the position. #103 NMC×ATJ -Racing intended to make a final push, but encountered brake trouble and went off course at the 90-degree corner. They somehow managed to return to the track and received the checkered flag in 4th place.

The top 4 teams completed 170 laps. If there had been no machine troubles or penalties, it is highly likely that their positions would have changed. Among them, #30 ATJ-Racing was able to proceed smoothly and ultimately stood at the top of the 2018 Mote tai (Mote endurance).

After the race, the awards ceremony, which includes not only the race results but also various awards such as Best Design Award and the Long-Distance Championship Award, was exciting, marking the finale of the 21st "Mote tai (Mote endurance)".
