August 3 (Sun) Race Report

#12 CLUB1.2 Kushitani Kawaguchi Store, which always led the race from pole position, wins after 170 laps!

2014 "Mote tai (Mote endurance)" August 3 (Sun) Race Report The 17th "Mote tai (Mote endurance)" final. On August 3 (Sun), the sky over Twin Ring Motegi was clear from the morning, and the temperature rose rapidly. The maximum temperature reached 36.7 degrees, with the road surface temperature hitting 60 degrees, resulting in a scorching heat.

After the morning briefing, pre-start checks, and a 10-minute free practice session, 85 vehicles advanced to the 7-hour endurance race and lined up on the dummy grid. As scheduled, at 10 AM, the first group of 43 riders rushed to their machines in a Le Mans start. As expected, the #12 CLUB1.2 Kushitani Kawaguchi store, which marked an overwhelming time in qualifying, took the lead from the opening lap and extended its lead, marking the fastest lap of the race at 2 minutes 16.478 seconds on the 13th lap, establishing a solo pace. After one hour, the #12 CLUB1.2 Kushitani Kawaguchi store was in the lead, followed by #42 YSS Racing Mercury, #10 Team Penske, #63 HAPPY MONDAY, #1 YSS Racing Bulldozer Tagos A, #2 YSS Racing Bulldozer Tagos B, and #52 WIN RF, with the Kawasaki teams in the WT class on the same lap as the leader.

The BRAVE class at [#12 CLUB1.2 Kushitani Kawaguchi Store] has a long pit stay time of 4 minutes with refueling, creating a 1-minute gap over rivals. As a result, they consistently lead the race, but the situation continues where they drop positions during pit stops.

As the race passed the halfway point and approached the 4-hour mark, #12 CLUB1.2 KUSHITANI Kawaguchi Store made a pit stop. In their place, #10 Team Penske took the lead, but shortly after, Matsuda crashed at the 2nd corner. After a quick recovery, he returned to the track and entered the 100th lap still in the lead. Later, when #10 Team Penske made their 4th routine pit stop, #12 CLUB1.2 KUSHITANI Kawaguchi Store took the lead again. At one point, #10 Team Penske reclaimed the top position, but during the pit stop timing, #12 CLUB1.2 KUSHITANI Kawaguchi Store regained the lead, and from this point on, the gap began to widen significantly. They established a lead of about 2 laps over the second place, entering a solo run.

The competition among the classes was fierce. In this, the #999 Racing Team Honey Bee, which was running in 3rd place in its class, suffered a painful fall at the 90-degree corner. Unable to restart, it had to be towed back to the pit, resulting in a significant drop in position.

With one hour remaining, [#12 CLUB1.2 Kushitani Kawaguchi Store] was in the lead with 146 laps. [#10 Team Penske] was in second place with 145 laps, followed by [#17 Assorted Racing], [#2 YSS Racing Bulldozer Tagos B], and [#66 Riding Sports Fire 66], all with 144 laps. The top two entered their sixth and final pit stop, aiming only for the checkered flag. Meanwhile, the battle for third place intensified, and at the 6 hour and 13 minute mark, [#2 YSS Racing Bulldozer Tagos B] overtook [#17 Assorted Racing] to rise to third place. Additionally, [#98 NMC & Crime], which was running in sixth place, stopped at the entrance of pit road. They pushed the machine back to the pit but lost significant time and dropped positions.

After that, there were no changes in the top positions, and [#12 CLUB1.2 Kushitani Kawaguchi Store] recorded 170 laps and received the checkered flag in 1st place.
"The strategy went almost as planned by our strategist, Sato. We were actually aiming for 172 laps, but the Rider got tired (laughs). We had enough fuel, but there were concerns about the electrical system, so we couldn't be completely at ease. In the end, we completed 170 laps, but I think we had a good race with overtakes back and forth until the middle. I hope this class remains next year, and I want to celebrate the victory," said Katsumi Nagano.

In 2nd place overall, with 168 laps, was #10 Team Penske, winning in the WT class. In 3rd place overall, with 167 laps, was #2 YSS Racing Bulldozer Tagos B. In 4th place overall, #17 Assort Racing won in the NST-CBR class. In 5th place overall, #66 Riding Sports Fire 66 also topped the WS class.

This year, the overall level has risen, and the number of laps completed by the winning team increased by 2 laps compared to last year, marking a total of 170 laps. The fact that the safety car did not enter even once contributed to the increased lap count, which is likely evidence of improved manners. From beginners to former MotoGP™ riders, many riders seriously enjoyed the 'Mote tai (Mote endurance)' this year.
