August 2 (Sat) Race Report

#12 CLUB1.2 Kushitani Kawaguchi Store has won pole position for two consecutive years! The 4-hour endurance race was won by #4 Will Saitama & Yoshizawa Planning, advancing to the 7-hour race!!

2014 "Mote tai (Mote endurance)" August 2 (Sat) Race Report The 17th "Mote tai (Mote endurance)" will be held. On August 2 (Sat), an official qualifying round and a 4-hour endurance race will be held for teams that unfortunately did not pass the qualifying round. It was a clear morning with a temperature of 35 degrees and a track temperature of 55 degrees, experiencing the harsh heat typical of midsummer.

The session for Group A's first Rider started at 8 AM. Here, Katsumi Nagano, riding the BRAVE class machine from #12 CLUB1.2 Kushitani Kawaguchi, recorded an overwhelming Course Record of 2 minutes 14.739 seconds. In second place was Takahiro Yamamoto from the WT class #42 YSS Racing Mercury with a time of 2 minutes 19.246 seconds, followed by Koichi Matsuda from the WT class #10 Team Penske in third place with 2 minutes 19.673 seconds, and Tatsuya Kosakabashi from the WT class #1 YSS Racing Bulldozer Tagos A in fourth place.

In Group B, the first rider, Kazuki Tomita from the NST-CBR class, with the #999 Racing Team Honeybee, took the lead with a time of 2 minutes 22.716 seconds, also updating the Course Records for the NST-CBR class.

In the following session of Group A's second Rider, Kenji Kumagai from #12 CLUB1.2 Kushitani Kawaguchi marked a time of 2 minutes 15.701 seconds, securing the top position. Hiroshi Maruyama recorded a time of 2 minutes 24.971 seconds. Although his position was 19th, he set a new Course Record for the NST-VTR class.

In the final qualifying session for Group B, the second Rider, Shuichiro Nakamura from #17 Assort Racing, recorded a good time of 2 minutes 22.747 seconds, which was the second-best time following the time marked by Tomita in the first Rider's session, and topped the group.

The pole position was claimed by #12 CLUB1.2 Kushitani Kawaguchi, who topped both the first and second Rider sessions with overwhelming times. This marked a remarkable achievement for the second consecutive year.
"I would like to say that we secured the pole position as planned, but this year we have been troubled quite a bit by machine issues. We built a new engine based on last year's engine data, but it was plagued with continuous problems. Therefore, we discarded last year's data and approached the race in an almost standard condition. It was only after entering race week that we finally posted good times, but since the power output is less than last year, the Rider has been compensating for it. In fact, a mission trouble also occurred during qualifying, so whether we can finish the race is uncertain, but we have no choice but to escape as far as we can. For now, since we were able to launch fireworks in qualifying, I will take that as a positive," said Katsumi Nagano, who marked the best time.

In 2nd place is #42 YSS Racing Mercury, in 3rd place is #10 Team Penske, in 4th place is #1 YSS Racing Bulldozer Tagos A, in 5th place is #2 YSS Racing Bulldozer Tagos B, followed by the Ninja 250 in the WT class, and in 6th place is #66 Riding Sports Fire 66, which is the top of the WS class.

The qualifying results were contested based on the total time of the 1st Rider and the 2nd Rider. In the finals, there are also fast international Riders in the 3rd and 4th positions, making it difficult to predict the race dynamics. The pit stop duration is also set according to the class, and being fast alone is not enough to win in 'Mote tai (Mote endurance)'. Which team will receive the checkered flag at the top!?

Following the qualifying results, a 4-hour endurance final race started at 14:00 with 35 cars that could not advance to the 7-hour endurance race. The car that returned first on the opening lap was #117 Y-style. Following this were #34 Sachiracing ☆ Tenshindou, #53 Presto MRC Oyaji's Last Stand, and #107 WITH ME RACING V250, forming a top group of about 6 cars in the early stages. Among them, driver Maruyama of #107 WITH ME RACING V250 showed an aggressive driving style and briefly took the lead, but shortly after, suffered a devastating crash at the S-curve, significantly dropping in position.

After that, #4 Will Saitama & Yoshizawa Planning, which had been climbing up from the back of the grid, rose to the top and established a solo lead. #4 Will Saitama & Yoshizawa Planning had no time in qualifying because the first rider, Takashi Yoshizawa, crashed during the out lap and had to run in the 4-hour race with a petition.

The race moved as nearly three hours had passed. The leading team, #4 Will Saitama & Yoshizawa Planning, and the second place team, #64 Green Hills & Be Craft I, both pitted at the same time. Both teams exited the pit after just a rider change. In fact, #4 Will Saitama & Yoshizawa Planning was not ready with their original rider, so another rider entered the course instead. Immediately after, they pitted again for refueling and changed riders. With this pit stop, they used up the gap they had, and as they re-entered the course, #64 Green Hills & Be Craft I was closing in from behind. At the end of lap 73, the gap was 8 seconds and 181 milliseconds. It closed to 5 seconds and 390 milliseconds on lap 74, and 3 seconds and 122 milliseconds on lap 75. Although #4 Will Saitama & Yoshizawa Planning, who struggled with fuel efficiency, increased their pace, the gap shrank to 1 second and 556 milliseconds on lap 76, and at the V corner, it finally became tail-to-nose. Then, on the back straight, #64 Green Hills & Be Craft I overtook #4 Will Saitama & Yoshizawa Planning and moved ahead. There were 36 minutes remaining. #4 Will Saitama & Yoshizawa Planning, now in second place, showed their determination and clung to the tail of #64 Green Hills & Be Craft I, but at the exit of the 90-degree corner, they had a big slide, almost crashing. Furthermore, they got caught up with backmarkers, widening the gap, and it seemed that #64 Green Hills & Be Craft I would take the victory. However, on lap 83, #64 Green Hills & Be Craft I, who was leading, suffered a painful crash at the hairpin. They quickly restarted but fell back to second place. Meanwhile, #53 Presto MRC Oyaji's Bad Struggle was closing in from behind, engaging in a battle for second place.

Ignoring the chasing pack behind, #4 Will Saitama & Yoshizawa Planning crossed the finish line in first place. They earned the right to participate in the 7-hour endurance race the following day.
"Actually, I missed the timing for the rider change because I was taking a work call and ended up making an unnecessary pit stop. In qualifying, I suddenly crashed and caused trouble for the team, so I did my best. Thanks to everyone who supported me, we were able to win. I will also participate in tomorrow's 7-hour endurance race," said Yoshizawa.

The battle for 2nd place between #64 Green Hills & Be Craft I saw an unexpected slowdown just before the finish line, resulting in a frustrating 30th place as they could not cross the finish line. #53 Presto MRC Oyaji's Last Ditch Effort finished in 2nd place, while #881 8810R came in 3rd.
