The 11th Endurance Carnival 2011 Mote KART endurance festival "K-TAI". On July 23 (Sat), a 5-hour endurance challenge will be held in the "Challenge Class", which allows for a relatively wide range of modifications and the enjoyment of building vehicles. On this day, after Typhoon No. 6 moved away from the Pacific Ocean, a pressure trough accompanied by cold air approached Honshu, creating comfortable conditions that were unexpected for a summer endurance event.
The opening ceremony began with the girls' karting club's pledge. Participants applauded as the course officials, led by
PIPIRA, headed to their posts. The course officials are supporting "K-TAI" behind the scenes.
And during the briefing, flags and other items were rechecked. The final event has finally begun.
The Challenge 5-Hour Endurance Race started as scheduled with a rolling start at 10:30. The car that secured pole position, #63 Robot Racing Rocket Team, was the first to enter Turn 1, followed by #20 SuperChipsDream, #27 NOCM & SRS-K, #84 Team HKR, #28 TEAMG・J・C@Roof R, #100 SixStars RT, and #34 AWA by Sugimura Juku. From the back, #779 ReonSuperKids-2 and #5 ReonSuperKids-3 caught up, forming a top group of nine cars in the early stages. Among them, the three cars #779 ReonSuperKids-2, #5 ReonSuperKids-3, and #20 SuperChipsDream led the pack.
After that, it drizzled, but not enough to wet the track, and the final event continued as planned. During the pit-in timing, the top group gradually spread out.
Two hours into the race, the leader was #779 ReonSuperKids-2. Following closely in the same lap was #88 Hirai Dental @ Silk & ddd in second place, with #50 Parts1 @ F・RACING, #20 SuperChipsDream, #5 ReonSuperKids-3, and #3 K.R.R trailing a lap behind. However, by the time three hours had passed, #779 ReonSuperKids-2 was leading the race alone, with #20 SuperChipsDream a lap behind, and #50 Parts1 @ F・RACING another lap behind.
However, when ReonSuperKids-2 entered the pit, SuperChipsDream rose to the top. Parts1@F・RACING, K.R.R, ReonSuperKids-2, and ddd were all on the same lap as the leader, and at this point, it was still unclear which team would receive the checkered flag first.
After that, as the race approached its climax, ReonSuperKids-2 took the lead again, seemingly establishing a solid position. However, from behind, ReonSuperKids-3, having passed Parts1@F・RACING, was closing in. Despite being from the same team, they showed relentless pursuit, and with 10 minutes remaining, the gap had narrowed to 7 seconds. Seeing this, ReonSuperKids-2 accelerated again. ReonSuperKids-2 completed 101 laps first, finishing at the top, followed by ReonSuperKids-3 with a gap of 9.566 seconds, and Parts1@F・RACING with a gap of 2 minutes 10.828 seconds. The 2011 K-TAI Challenge 5-Hour Endurance Race saw three teams awarded for the most laps completed.
"In the end, fuel consumption was tough, so I slowed down, but since Mr. Noda was closing in from behind, I had no choice but to speed up. The gas tank was almost empty after crossing the finish line (laughs)," said Omiya, representative of ReonSuperKids-2.
#4 ddd and #20 SuperChipsDream won the excellent lap count award with 100 laps. The MVP award was given to #6 Teacher & Salaryman, who has participated continuously since the first event, attended all public practices without absence, and was also recognized for coordinating team wear.
