2010 "K-TAI" Challenge Class & Enjoy Class 5-Hour Final Event Report

The 5-hour endurance event ended in a dead heat at the very last moment! The memorable 10th MVP was awarded to #773 Women's Kart Club SEGUNDA!

2010 "K-TAI" Challenge Class & Enjoy Class 5-Hour Final Event Report On July 24 (Sat), the 10th Endurance Carnival will be held in 2010. The 2010 Motegi KART endurance festival "K-TAI" will feature a 5-hour endurance event. Marking a decade milestone, the event has been changed from the mission kart class that was held until 2009 to an event based on 4-stroke engine vehicles for both days. Additionally, due to modification restrictions, there will be two classes that can run together: the "Challenge Class," which allows for relatively wide modification ranges for creating vehicles, and the "Enjoy Class," which minimizes additional parts that can be changed, making it easy for first-timers to enjoy.

On the first day, 27 teams entered the 5-hour endurance event on the 24th (Sat). On this day, in the midst of summer, with temperatures reaching 30 degrees in the early morning, the participants gathered at Twin Ring Motegi to enjoy the event. The traditional opening ceremony parade by participants took place at "K-TAI." After that, the athlete oath was conducted by #2 Chikara Waza System, and the participants faced about 180 officials who support "K-TAI" behind the scenes. Every year, this interaction between participants and officials celebrating the holding of "K-TAI" is something that cannot be seen at other events. Thus, the 10th edition of "K-TAI" has begun.

The final event of the 5-hour endurance race started at 10:30. A rolling start with 26 cars lined up on the grid and a pit start for the electric kart BIREL-EV, which was specially allowed to participate by the organizer, marked the beginning of the race aiming for the finish line after 5 hours. Right after the start, car #31 Shinjuku Shonan feat. fuu? passed the first corner in the lead. Following closely, each team raced around the Twin Ring Motegi International Racing Course. After completing one lap, car #2 Chikara Waza System took the lead, pulling away from the second place car #3 K.R.R GX DREAM. However, at the one-hour mark, car #3 K.R.R GX DREAM had completed 21 laps and was in the lead. Following them were #196 Team IMA・OMSC, #31 Shinjuku Shonan feat. fuu?, and #9 RK Robot Racing, all on the same lap.

The feature of this "K-TAI" is that various events are prepared for participants during the final event. For example, during the event, the Twin Ring Motegi Angels visit the participants' pits and conduct real-time interviews with them in a pit report. Conversely, participants can visit the announcement room and promote their team through the public address system during PR time. Furthermore, participants can send real-time messages during the event in the form of email recruitment. These messages are introduced by the announcer through the public address system, creating an atmosphere where not only those racing on the course but everyone present can enjoy.

With favorable weather, the final event progressed smoothly over time. As the hours passed—1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours—the top teams, #9 RK Robot Racing, #4 ddd, and #3 K.R.R GX DREAM, engaged in a dead heat for the most laps completed award. In the last hour, the competition intensified between the two teams, #3 K.R.R GX DREAM and #4 ddd, as they raced towards the final goal.

On the 92nd lap, two cars that widened on the outside at the exit of the final corner were battling, and #4 ddd rose to the top. However, on the 94th lap, they regained the lead at the second S-curve. But again, on the 97th lap, #4 ddd took the lead at 130R. In the end, #4 ddd crossed the finish line, pulling away from #3 K.R.R GX DREAM, who said, "The tires were too worn out, and I couldn't keep up at the end." The two teams won the most laps award in the challenge class with the auspicious number of 100 laps for the memorable 10th K-TAI. The most laps award in the enjoy class was won by #15 Tigers and #13 TOUSOU R.S, who completed 96 laps.

The excellent lap count awards for the Challenge Class were won by [#9 RK Robot Racing], [#2 Power System], [#31 Shin-Shonan Shinjuku feat. fuu?], and the excellent lap count awards for the Enjoy Class were won by [#7 ABOUT], [#10 MIC KARTING], and [#16 Takanezawa Auto Club ★ OB Team].

In addition, the team that received the MVP award, which garnered the most attention during this event, was the Women's Karting Team SEGUNDA. Composed of female athletes, this was their third year participating as a women's karting team. The reason for the award was their ability to unite as a team with female drivers, participating in all three public practice sessions. Moreover, their sincere approach to K-TAI without receiving any penalties contributed to this result.

The "K-TAI" in 2011 will mark its 11th event. As a representative event for karts equipped with 4-stroke general-purpose engines, we will make it more exciting than ever, so we encourage everyone to participate!
