The "JOY TAI" final on July 15 (Sun) was in excellent conditions for a endurance race, with thin clouds covering the sky and the summer sunlight slightly weakened. All 80 entered vehicles lined up on the grid without a single absence, and the race started on time.
As the race begins with a rolling start after two formation laps, the pole position starter, #18 Asano Automobile Integra, and the second place #48 Dijon Endless Wako's DC5 engage in a fierce battle from the first lap. After securing the first lap, #18 Asano Automobile Integra took control of the pace and led the race, winning one of the commemorative prizes for the 15th anniversary of Twin Ring Motegi set for the 15th lap.
The race began to pick up after about 40 minutes. The leader, #18 Asano Automobile Integra, was the first to enter the pit, followed by the second place and others. It turned into a full-scale battle, including pit work typical of endurance races.
Two hours have passed since the start, and the leader is [#38 SKR Omega WM CRX]. However, the positions are changing dramatically with every pit stop. Additionally, light rain is falling in some parts of the course, adding to the unpredictable weather conditions. In the midst of this, [#5 Mizuho Pharmacy ZTO Grandpa ED Turtle City], which was once in the lead, has stopped on the track. Furthermore, in the afternoon, the weather improved. Strong sunlight is shining on the asphalt, increasing the burden on both the drivers and the machines.
At the 4-hour mark, the #1 WAKO'S.M-one competing in Class 4 took the lead, engaging in a battle that transcended classes with #38 SKR Omega WM CRX. Furthermore, after reclaiming the top position, #38 SKR Omega WM CR-X achieved 100 laps, while Class 3's #59 KOG Wako's Dunlop City, having completed two fuel stops, secured 2nd place, igniting the famous "JOY TAI" spectacle of the "Tortoise and the Hare" battle. However, #1 WAKO'S.M-one experienced a machine stop at the 5th corner on the 107th lap, resulting in a regrettable retirement.
As the race entered its final stages, the #38 SKR Omega WM CR-X was leading, but it was in a situation where it had to pit once more. While attention was focused on the timing of that pit stop, the #59 KOG Wako's Dunlop City, which was in second place, allowed two Civics, the #3 Buy JOS Takagishi WM EG6 and the #87 Sunspot Endless Civic, who were chasing hard from behind, to overtake. This resulted in the top three positions being occupied by Class 6 participating vehicles.
With less than 1 hour remaining, the leader [#38 SKR Omega WM CR-X] makes its final pit stop. Upon returning to the course, it maintains a lead of over 2 minutes ahead of 2nd place [#3 Buy JOS Takagishi WM EG6], raising expectations for the CR-X's first victory in the "JOY TAI". However, shortly after, [#38 SKR Omega WM CR-X] slows down at corner 5, avoiding retirement but significantly dropping in position. Taking the lead instead is [#3 Buy JOS Takagishi WM EG6], followed closely by [#87 Sunspot Endless Civic], which is about 4 seconds behind. However, [#87 Sunspot Endless Civic] struggles to increase its pace.
With less than 30 minutes remaining, just when it seemed that PUTO Takagishi WM EG6 would hold on, Sunspot Endless Civic began its pursuit as if it had been waiting for the perfect moment. With less than 5 minutes to go, Sunspot Endless Civic finally caught up to PUTO Takagishi WM EG6 and surged ahead on the home straight of lap 154, becoming the first to take the lead in this race. In fact, at that moment, Masahiro Hara, who was driving PUTO Takagishi WM EG6, mistakenly thought that his opponent was a lapped car.
With less than 3 minutes remaining, there is definitely only 1 lap left, and there is no guarantee of a second lap. In such a desperate situation, #3 PUTO Takagishi WM EG6 takes a gamble. Staying right behind #87 Sunspot Endless Civic, they look for an opportunity, using a lapped car to regain the lead in the S-curve. Continuing to hold back the persistent #87 Sunspot Endless Civic all the way to the home straight, they pass the control line in the lead. At that moment, the checkered flag is waved for #3 PUTO Takagishi WM EG6, securing their first victory in the 'JOY TAI'.
With a race time of 7 hours, 28 seconds, and 349 milliseconds, Hiroyasu Onuma from the #3 KAITORI JOS Takagishi WM EG6 achieved a narrow victory with just a 3 seconds and 313 milliseconds difference from 2nd place. He emphasized the victory of teamwork, stating, "The rival #87 had the same engine and was a team that shared information. We knew their times and fuel consumption, but they also knew our strategies. The pit was next to us, so information was easily shared, and I gave instructions to increase the pace, which the driver understood completely."
In addition, Class 3's 【#59 KOG Wako's Dunlop City】 took 3rd place, and a lineup typical of JOY TAI was seen on the podium.
