7-Hour Endurance Race Report

The strategy worked, and the #44 DLWINTMNR Integra achieved its long-awaited first victory!

2011 "JOY TAI" July 10 (Sun) 7-Hour Endurance Race Report Following the qualifiers, the final day also saw clear blue skies, and from the morning, it became a harsh summer endurance race with intense heat. Of course, the temperature, humidity, and track temperature rose, creating tough conditions not only for the drivers but also for the machines.

The 11th "JOY TAI" started on time with a rolling start. As expected, the #2 Shiden Team's Lotus 2-11, which started from pole position, pulled away from the rest of the field. On the second lap, it marked the fastest lap of the race at 2 minutes 17.542 seconds, extending its lead. However, the pace did not increase as hoped, and the #57 Towa Intec Racing DC5 took the lead. The battle continued to be fierce. After one hour, the leader was the #3 Asano Automobile Prelude, followed closely by the #2 Shiden Team's Lotus 2-11, but shortly after, both teams pitted. The #22 Penny★ELF EK4 took the lead.

Immediately after that, there was a machine that had a tire come off, resulting in an accident where the tire remained on the track. A safety car was deployed for the recovery. Many teams pitted at this timing, and teams aiming for the refueling area rushed in, with some teams able to refuel without any wait amidst the congestion.

At the point when 2 hours had passed, the top was held by #36 Car☆Xs Advant Trust Vitz. Remarkably, it had not yet made a single pit stop and finally entered for its first refueling at 2 hours and 20 minutes. #44 DLWINTMNR Integra and #22 Penny★ELF EK4 were also following on the same lap, but attention was focused on #36 Car☆Xs Advant Trust Vitz, which demonstrated a thorough "turtle running method".

Furthermore, shortly after that, there was a machine that sprayed oil from corner 3 to corner 5, leading to the introduction of the second safety car. At this point, the leader is #44 DLWINTMNR Integra, followed by #22 Penny★ELF EK4 with a 34-second gap.

In the back, the team [#5 Mizuho Pharmacy KOG Mitsuwa Grandpa City], which placed 3rd overall last year with the "Kame Running Method," is steadily climbing the ranks. At the 3-hour mark, they are in 3rd place. As other teams enter the pits, they finally rise to the top by the 67th lap. Meanwhile, the team [#36 Car☆Xs Advent Trust Vitz], which was also aiming for the top with the "Kame Running Method," briefly takes the lead again, but after 4 hours and 39 minutes, they slow down and stop their machine on the inside of corner 5. This incident occurred just as they entered the 100th lap. The new leader is now [#22 Penny★ELF EK4], but…

After 5 hours, black clouds spread across the sky, and rain begins to fall from the direction of the East Course, including the hairpin and S-curve. Subsequently, large raindrops fall on the home straight, leading to a thunderstorm accompanied by strong winds. As a result, the safety car is deployed for the third time that day, but the wind and rain continue to intensify. The track also begins to flood, so safety is prioritized, and a red flag is shown. At this point, the car in the lead, #44 DLWINTMNR Integra, completed 111 laps, marking the end of the race.

"We were able to proceed as planned. The timing of the safety car coming in was perfect both times, which was a big factor. In the end, just when I was thinking of making a driver change, it started to rain and the safety car came in, which was also lucky. After 10 years of challenges, we had trouble in the last hour before. I'm finally able to win, and I'm very happy," said Takashi Nakayama, driver of the #44 DLWINTMNR Integra.

In 2nd place, the Class 5 top car #12 Andsalt Higuma Civic, and in 3rd place, #9 Fukuda Housing Nikko EG6 came in one lap behind.

"Kame Running Method" was about to catch up, and is currently in 1st place in Class 3 and 7th overall.
