Official Qualifying & 3-Hour Endurance Race Report

#2 Shiden Team's Lotus 2-11 takes pole position with a course record!

2010 "JOY TAI" July 10 (Sat) Official Qualifying and 3-Hour Endurance Race Report The "JOY TAI" has reached its 10th milestone. In 2010, the number of registered drivers was increased from 2 to 5, making it easier and more enjoyable for more people.

The official qualifiers took place on July 10 (Sat), with clear blue skies and extreme heat from the morning. In this heat, the A drivers from each team began their time attacks. They were divided into two groups by class, and both A drivers and B drivers ran once each in a 30-minute session, with the fastest times reflected on the grid.

The B drivers of Group 2, the last session of the qualifiers, have started their attack. In harsh conditions with track temperatures exceeding 50 degrees, Kato Hiroki of the A4 class #2 Shiden Team's Lotus 2-11 marked a time of 2 minutes 12.417 and secured pole position.
"(Twin Ring Motegi) I have been racing since the Lotus Cup in 2009, and the car's characteristics are good, so I was able to get pole position. Fuel efficiency is not great, so I want to enjoy the race while feeling the tension of the competition on July 11 (Sun). It would be great if I could finish in a good position, but my priority is to enjoy receiving the checkered flag without any troubles," said Kato.

The B5 class top of PUTO #83 HONDA NSX recorded 2 minutes 12 seconds 916, the B4 class top of PUTO #40 Holiday Auto × Reduca YH-EG6 recorded 2 minutes 14 seconds 632, and the B3 class top of PUTO #199 KRac & Kurosawa Automobile Civic recorded 2 minutes 16 seconds 458.

The "JOY TAI" 3-hour endurance race took place as scheduled at 14:15 after the official qualifying ended. Five cars were entered, but the "#70 M-Sports Tiger S2000" could not take its place on the grid due to machine trouble. The race aimed for the finish line after 3 hours with a clean rolling start from the 4 cars.

Starting from pole position, the #78 Cars Hitachi Minami Cartech Civic entered the first corner first, followed by the #28 Forward Racing BMW M3 which started from the third grid in second place. The #28 Forward Racing BMW M3 then overtook the #78 Cars Hitachi Minami Cartech Civic from the fourth to the fifth corner, taking the lead. However, after 23 minutes, the #28 Forward Racing BMW M3 pitted for fuel. Once again, the #78 Cars Hitachi Minami Cartech Civic took the lead and pulled ahead with an overwhelming performance. They had established a solid position, but with 50 minutes remaining, they slowed down due to running out of gas after completing two more laps than planned.
The car came to a stop on the inside of the 90-degree corner, and it seemed like all hope was lost, but the officials desperately pushed the car, managing to get it to the refueling area. After refueling, they returned to the track while maintaining the lead. They received the checkered flag, and the #78 Cars Hitachi Minami Cartech Civic achieved victory in the endurance race for the first time in two years.
The gap to the #171 NWR Civic SPM in second place was just 1.176 seconds. The #28 Forward Racing BMW M3 also finished in third place on the same lap. The #37 CRUX Oyako MAC unfortunately retired, unable to capitalize on their parent-child power.
