The day of the final has finally arrived for "JOY TAI." On this day, the Twin Ring Motegi, blessed with clear skies, experienced a rise in temperature, but the humidity was low, giving a sense of autumn heat. The grid walk, public briefing on the course, and the oath by the Motegi Angels proceeded smoothly, leading to the 9th start.
There are 84 machines on the grid. The top 45 machines are in the 1st group, and the rest are in the 2nd group, starting with a rolling start.
The #25 Zero 1000V Spoturbo Civic, which showed a good start from pole position, entered the first corner in the lead. Following in order were the #83 HONDA NSX from the second grid, the #15 Sims BS Blaze Impreza from the third grid, the #4 Wako's DL Uetake IDI Trueno, and the #18 Bambino Tokutaka Civic, maintaining their qualifying positions. In the following second lap, the #83 HONDA NSX marked the fastest lap of the race at 2 minutes 16 seconds 239 and rose to the top. It continued to lead the race but was the first to pit for fuel, dropping its position. The #25 Zero 1000V Spoturbo Civic also pitted before the one-hour mark, gradually revealing the true face of 'Joy TAI' that shows 'speed alone cannot win.'
After one hour, fuel-efficient machines rise to the top. First, the #18 Bambino Tokutoyo Civic continues to lap in the lead, but after 1 hour and 40 minutes, it enters the first gas charge. At this point, the #25 Zero 1000 V Sport Turbo Civic, which is running at a high pace, takes the lead again, but it is short-lived. By the time two hours have passed, the #4 Wako's DL Uetake IDI Trueno is in the lead, followed by the #1 Jonan Safety Equipment Mecca DL-EG6 and the #74 Honda Cars Narashino Suzuhira Civic, all on the same lap.
As the race progresses, the top position changes during pit stops, but in reality, the consistently fast pace and fuel efficiency of the #4 Wako's DL Uetake IDI Trueno pulls away from the cars in second place and below. After 4 hours, #4 Wako's DL Uetake IDI Trueno is in the lead, followed by #1 Jonan Safety Equipment Mecca DL・EG6 and #98 Hokuai @ Kaisen Team Civic.
With one hour remaining, many teams have completed their final pit work, and the rankings begin to solidify. At this point, #5 Pal Sports Mizuho Pharmacy Grandpa City, which was fighting in 2nd place, had to pit for their final refueling. The pole position starter, #25 Zero 1000V Spoturbo Civic, also climbed to 3rd place with 40 minutes left, but shortly after, they dropped in rank during their 7th pit stop.
With less than 30 minutes remaining, [#4 Wako's DL Uetake IDI Trueno] has taken a 3-lap lead in 2nd place and is cruising. In 2nd place is [#9 Nikko WM Maeda Shokai EK9], and [#61 Verity Mecca DL Civic] is in 3rd place. However, just as the checkered flag is approaching, [#61 Verity Mecca DL Civic] stops on the home straight. During this time, [#51 KOCHIRA Racing with Mars] rises to 3rd place.
In 2009, without the safety car entering and with stable weather, the #4 Wako's DL Uetake IDI Trueno completed 156 laps, setting a new record for the most laps and achieving victory in the "JOY TAI". This marked the first time in the 9-year history of the "JOY TAI" that a vehicle other than a Honda won.
"I was able to win because the pace and fuel efficiency were good, and the tires did not wear out. In 2009, the team changed, and the machine changed, but it was finished as a car with more potential than in 2008," said Katsushi Tomizawa, who joined as a victory contractor and successfully fulfilled that role. This is Tomizawa's fourth individual victory, following his win in 2008.
In 2nd place, #9 Nikkō WM Maeda Shōkai EK9 finished 3 laps behind, and just before the checkered flag, #51 KOCHIRA Racing with Mars moved up in position to finish in 3rd place.
