2021.07.01 updated

At Mobility Resort Motegi, an activity called "Living Creature Doctor and Gasa Gasa Introduction" was held during the Golden Week holiday period.
This time, we will introduce the state of the activity that was held.

What kind of activity is the "Gasa Gasa Introduction with the Creature Doctor"?

Mobility Resort Motegi has a forest called "Hello Woods," a place a little away from the city center where you can fully experience nature.
Within the Hello Woods forest, there is a rice field called the "Hacchoutonbo Terraced Rice Field." Various creatures that are rarely seen in the city usually live there. In spring, many tadpoles swim around, and species such as the larvae of the red dragonfly called Akiaakane, the Tokyo Daruma frog, and the tree frog also inhabit the area.
"Gasa Gasa Introduction with the Creature Doctor" is an activity where you use a net to scoop up creatures living in the rice paddies and observe them closely.

A place where you can fully experience nature

By picking up and observing unfamiliar creatures yourself and touching them directly, you can use your five senses to perceive various things more deeply than just looking them up on the internet.
Also, in this activity, a creature expert who is knowledgeable about various living things accompanies you. They explain not only the ecology of the creatures but also detailed aspects such as how they were born, why they live in this forest, and where they are most commonly found.

Experience the "Living Things Doctor and Gasa Gasa Introduction"!

So, we actually experienced what kind of program the "Living Things Doctor and Gasa Gasa Introduction" is!
On the day, we gathered on-site at the Hello Woods forest’s Hacchoutonbo terraced rice fields at the start time! Upon arriving at the rice fields, we immediately took nets and, together with the Living Things Doctor, started gasa gasa-ing the rice fields to look for creatures. That day, frogs were croaking all around, and the children participating were completely absorbed in catching frogs!
Also, rice paddies are rarely seen in urban areas, so the children were very excited as they put their nets into the paddies and found various creatures.
The rice paddies are full of tadpoles. In addition, dragonfly larvae and diving beetles also inhabit the paddies. The expert teaches many things about these creatures. For example, tadpoles: depending on the season, the types of tadpoles vary, and in the Hello Woods terraced rice fields, the spawning of five different species occurs in a set sequence.
In this way, you can immediately ask the expert any questions you have about the creatures’ ecology, species, and how they live, which leads to a wealth of learning.
Frogs are quite difficult to catch, but the expert shared tips and even caught some together to show us.

Let's observe the creatures

Let's observe frogs with the creature expert! Questions like, "What do their hands and feet look like?" "Where are their eyes?" "What about their mouths?" were asked, and the participating children used all their senses to observe the creatures.

Enjoy natural experiences with peace of mind and safety

At the end, the creatures are returned to the rice field. The frogs that were caught swim away smoothly once released back into their original rice field. The activity lasts only about an hour, and since participants gather and disperse on-site, it’s great that you can freely decide your schedule before and after!
Even for those who have a strong aversion to insects, children can see, touch, and feel nature, absorbing its goodness fully. There are many things you can only understand by actually touching. Hello Woods is a forest carefully managed by human hands, so it can be said that you can enjoy natural experiences safely and securely.
